2019.05.03 - Therapy Ponies Visit Thumb.jpgA Safe Harbor care home in Stoke-on-Trent has been visited by therapy animals this week.

The Place Up Hanley care home in Bucknall had a visit from a pair of adorable Shetland ponies from Lollipop Pony Parties.

Lollipop and Moomin came in to the home to meet residents. Everyone was able to feed and stroke the ponies as they were led around.

Residents were surprised to see the miniature horses in their living room but they soon became best friends after feeding them ponies carrots and rubbing their soft furry coats.

Studies have shown that animal therapy brings a wide range of benefits for people with dementia. Animals have a calming effect, can reduce anxiety and increases social interaction and physical activity, particularly for those living in care home settings.
